We’ve Cut Carbon Emissions!
JJ Foodservice has reduced idling by a huge 70% since the introduction of telematics, helping to achieve a 2% reduction in total carbon emissions.
The telematics project began in January 2018 and within just six months the amount of time vehicles were left idling reduced by 55% (1449 hours) per month while miles per gallon increased 15% to more than 9.6 as drivers began completing deliveries more efficiently.
Last month, a record 70% reduction in idling was achieved, resulting in a 2% decrease in total carbon emissions (% change from 647.1grams per km to 634.8 grams per km).
Head of Operations at JJ Foodservice, Sedat Kaan Hendekli, said, “We are proud to say that by choosing to shop at JJ’s, caterers are partnering with a supplier that cares about the future.”
Solar panels now generate 13% of energy use across two of JJ’s London depots (444,000kWh annually) while a new Eco-Packaging range gives caterers access to a wide range of compostable and biodegradable packaging options.
JJ warehouses operate in a totally paperless environment following the introduction of digital technology in January. “Our environmental credentials have never looked better. We look forward to partnering with more businesses that share the same values as us,” added Hendekli,.
Telematics is a method of monitoring a vehicle, which combines GPS with on-board diagnostics to record and map exactly where a vehicle is, how far it’s travelling, driver behaviour etc. Tracking driver behaviour has also shown to improve road safety and reduce the cost of vehicle maintenance. Keeping costs down has enabled JJ’s to continue passing on great savings to customers.
